CHICAGO (CBS) – After Mayor Lori Lightfoot gave potential bidders two more months to submit formal plans to build a casino in Chicago, the city has received five bids from four different bidders and will now begin the process of selecting who will operate the casino. the city’s first casino.

The mayor opened the bidding process for the city’s first casino in April and, four months later, extended the deadline by two months, setting a new deadline for Friday.

On Friday afternoon, the town hall said the city had received five offers from four candidates:

  • Bally’s Company submitted two proposals for two different sites; its casino operations would be self-managed
  • RH Chicago, LLC submitted a proposal for a single site; its casino operations would be managed by a subsidiary, Hard Rock International
  • Chicago Rivers at McCormick, LLC submitted a proposal for a single site; its casino operations would be managed by Rush Street Gaming, LLC
  • Rivers 78 Gaming, LLC submitted a proposal for a single site; its casino operations would be managed by Rush Street Gaming, LLC

A review committee made up of several city departments will now review the bids and recommend a proposal to the mayor, who will ultimately seek city council approval for his choice. It’s unclear how soon this will happen, but likely not until early next year.

“We are delighted to have received five high caliber proposals from Bally’s Corporation; RH Chicago, LLC; Rivers Chicago to McCormick, LLC; and Rivers 78 Gaming, LLC, ”Lightfoot said in a statement. “Submission of bid responses represents a major step towards the thoughtful development of a casino complex that elevates our businesses, employs and empowers our residents, and encourages tourism. We look forward to the next phase of discussions to bring this world-class entertainment experience to our city. “

The mayor’s office said any proposed Chicago casino complex must include a hotel with up to 500 rooms, meeting space, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues.

“The City is looking for an entertainment and gaming destination to improve the urban fabric of the surrounding neighborhood,” the mayor’s office said in a press release.

The selected casino operator would also be allowed to construct a temporary gaming operation during the construction of the permanent facility. They could also install slot machines at O’Hare and Midway airports before the permanent casino is operational.

The city expects the permanent casino to be open by 2025. The casino’s tax revenue would be spent on underfunded police and fire department pension funds.

Other requirements for bidders include:

  • 26% participation of Minority Business Enterprises (MBE), 6% participation of Women Business Enterprises (WBE) and Chicago-based companies in the design and construction of the project.
  • 50% of the total working hours of City residents and 7.5% of the total working hours of residents of the area surrounding the project in the construction of the project.
  • Hiring employees on the project to help build wealth in disadvantaged communities, prioritizing the hiring of city residents and creating a diverse workforce reflecting the city’s overall diversity.
  • Procurement of goods and services during project operation to help build wealth in disadvantaged communities, prioritizing city-based businesses and maximizing high levels of contracts with MBE and WBE suppliers and substantial levels of contracts with veteran-owned businesses and businesses owned by people with disabilities.
