Only 5 Macau casino hotels sold out for part of Golden Week

Only five of the 25 hotels in major Macau casino resorts surveyed by GGRAsia were full – as of Thursday – for at least four nights during the upcoming October Golden Week holiday in China, 1-7. October. The period coincides with the National Day celebrations.

The information was compiled by GGRAsia from the hotels respective online booking engines.

These five hotels were Emerald Tower at MGM Cotai; Galaxy Hotel, Banyan Tree Macau and Hotel Okura Macau at Galaxy Macau Casino Complex in Cotai; and StarWorld Hotel on the Macau Peninsula.

A check by GGRAsia on Monday showed that a total of 12 hotels in major casino complexes were at the time full for at least four nights during the Golden Week period.

Macau authorities announced a total of four new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, all involving security guards working at local hotels used for quarantine purposes.

The four cases are all believed to be linked to the two infections of security officers announced over the weekend. The four cases were detected after staff in close contact with the two infections were put into preventive quarantine by health authorities in Macau.

Following the new cases of Covid-19 in Macau, authorities in the neighboring city of Zhuhai, in Guangdong province, on Sunday introduced the obligation for all arrivals from Macau to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine . The requirement was to be lifted by the end of Thursday, September 30.

Macao General Manager Ho Iat Seng, said wednesday that even if Zhuhai drops its inbound quarantine rule by National Day October 1, it may not help Macau’s inbound tourism trade for October Golden Week.

GGRAsia’s hotel survey also showed that there had been a drop – between Monday and Thursday – in room rates for hotel stays during the Golden Week period. According to information available in their respective online booking engines, many of the 25 hotels surveyed were now offering standard room stays for less than HKD 2,000 (US $ 257) during most days of Golden Week in October. .

The 25 hotels questioned were: Grand Lisboa and Grand Lisboa Palace, promoted by SJM Holdings Ltd; MGM Macau, and MGM Cotai’s M Tower and Emerald Tower, promoted by MGM China Holdings Ltd; Wynn Macau and Wynn Palace, managed by Wynn Macau Ltd; Nüwa, Morpheus and Grand Hyatt Macau in City of Dreams Macau, Studio City and Altira in Taipa, all promoted by Melco Resorts and Entertainment Ltd; Galaxy Hotel, Banyan Tree Macau, Hotel Okura Macau, The Ritz-Carlton, Macau and JW Marriott Hotel Macau at Galaxy Macau Resort, as well as StarWorld Hotel, all promoted by Galaxy Entertainment Group Ltd; Sands Macao located in the Macao Peninsula, Venetian Macao, Parisian Macao, St Regis Macao, The Londoner Hotel, Conrad Macao and Four Seasons Hotel Macao, all promoted by Sands China Ltd.

Macau’s flag carrier Air Macau, meanwhile, has announced the cancellation of a number of flights originally scheduled for the October Golden Week holiday period. The cancellations included flights connecting Macau to the city of Chengdu, Hangzhou, Nanning, Beijing and Shanghai, all located in mainland China.
