What defines or illustrates a hotel within The Unbound Collection?

Each hotel in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt portfolio is truly extraordinary with a unique history, from the old palaces of Europe to the modern wonders of mainland China. With more than 25 hotels in operation, the brand has significantly expanded its luxury portfolio around the world since its launch just five years ago.

What have been the recent additions to the brand’s global footprint?

Currently, we have the Commune near the Great Wall, which is located near one of the most famous UNESCO World Heritage sites in China. Flanked by peaceful mountain views and breathtaking nature, this award-winning resort was originally designed by 12 renowned architects in Asia. Located within a 75-minute drive of downtown Beijing and Beijing Capital International Airport, the resort is particularly popular with city dwellers looking for an unforgettable discovery trip off the beaten track.

In Nanjing, Grand WUJI Hotel offers guests a revitalizing sanctuary inspired by personal well-being and traditional Chinese medicinal culture. Interiors impart Oriental Zen minimalism with natural woods, textured stone, and a calming earth color palette, while the hotel’s four restaurants serve up balanced seasonal menus made with nourishing ingredients. Most rooms also have a “health corner” with a Chinese style daybed for tea and meditation.

Located in an elegant Basque seaside town, the Hôtel du Palais Biarritz is the only hotel recognized as “Palais de France” on the French Atlantic coast. Built in 1854 by Napoleon III for his wife Eugenie de Montijo, the historic hotel is decorated with unique furnishings and rare paintings.

In London, the Great Scotland Yard Hotel is located in a historic landmark – the former Metropolitan Police Headquarters – and close to major London West End attractions, from world-class shopping and dining destinations to cultural hotspots. .

The pandemic has put a stop to travel. Do you expect to see increased demand, especially for unique travel experiences such as those the Collection is able to provide?

With the pandemic, customers have higher health and safety expectations than ever before. At the same time, we are seeing an increase in demand for tailored experiences and intimate getaways with fewer people. The Unbound Collection hotels offer our guests a good mix of hotels in isolated destinations, places surrounded by pristine nature as well as others that are found in bustling city centers to cater for different interests and occasions. We believe The Unbound Collection is well positioned to capture the growing demand for unique and authentic experiences upon return from travel.

These properties are tucked away in key attractions. Do properties collaborate or engage with local stakeholders to help organize additional experiences such as tours for its guests?

Yes, hotels work with different partners in their respective destinations to organize unique experiences that provide our guests with a sense of belonging and lasting memories. For example, the Jinmao Hotel Lijiang in Yunnan Province held a workshop on intangible cultural heritage at the resort site, organized by the hotel and the Baisha Naxi Embroidery Culture Center.

Here, customers can learn about the local Naxi community through interactive programs such as the cultural exploration of Dongba pictograms and the ethnic hand embroidery experience. In addition, The Langbo in Chengdu has collaborated with a local tourism school to offer guests a traditional Tang Dynasty tea ceremony in the comfort of the hotel lounge.

A nod to the city’s history as the main center of Chinese tea production and trade during the Tang Dynasty, this activity showcases Chengdu’s famous tea-drinking culture.

There are already 25 properties open so far, can you reveal what is in the works?

Over the next few years, we will be adding several new properties in Asia and Europe to The Unbound Collection by Hyatt portfolio, including the La Compañia Hotel in Panama City and the Grand Hansa Hotel in Helsinki, Finland.

Designed by world renowned studio Heatherwick, the resort will have a distinct look with 1,000 trees growing everywhere, hence its name “Tian An 1000 Trees” to reflect its garden-like exterior.

We’re excited to be opening our first Unbound Collection by Hyatt hotel in Japan next year. The 120-room Fuji Speedway hotel in Shizuoka, Japan will be located on a historic racing circuit with stunning views of Mount Fuji.
