Marriott International Announces Four Chief Executive Appointments
Marriott International has announced the appointment of four general managers to its Sydney and Melbourne portfolio, including three new general managers. Effective September, Bennath Evea joins Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde and Sudhir Yadav joins AC by Marriott Melbourne Southbank as first-time Managing Directors, while Scott MacDonald moves from Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde to Four Points by Sheraton Sydney Central Park, and Michelle Scott joins Moxy Sydney Airport Hotel from October as first-time General Managers.

Bennath and Michelle’s appointments add to the growing number of female general managers at Marriott in the region. Diversity and inclusion programs, as well as the representation of women in leadership positions are all key areas at Marriott International. Currently, 42% of Marriott hotel managers in the ANZP are women. Globally, Marriott International aims to achieve gender parity in all leadership positions globally by 2023, two years earlier than when it first set this goal.
Marriott International also operates within a people-centric culture, investing heavily in people and culture to ensure they are ready to lead and thrive. This includes the launch of an Australia-wide programme: ‘Life With the Works’ in February 2022, providing 2,500 associates with flexible access to personal and professional development opportunities, and offering training hours and unparalleled career progression opportunities. Bennath Evea, General Manager of Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde
Bennath began her career with Marriott International in 2008, at the Renaissance Washington, DC Downtown Hotel as Assistant Banqueting Manager. Bennath has since held various leadership positions in event management within the Marriott portfolio since, at locations in London, Doha, Hanoi and Bangkok, and most recently as Food and Beverage Manager at The Stones Hotel, Legian Bali, Autograph Collection. During this time, Bennath worked on the opening of two halo hotels in the Asia-Pacific region, JW Marriott Hanoi and Bangkok Marriott Marquis.
Bennath will take on the role of General Manager of Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde from late September, joining her most recent role as Operations Manager at Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection, where she managed the property through historic restorations of the pier. In her new role, Bennath looks forward to continuing to contribute to the development and career progression of the associates she works with.
Sudhir Yadav, Managing Director of AC by Marriott Melbourne Southbank
Sudhir moved from Fiji to Melbourne to join the AC by Marriott Melbourne Southbank team as Managing Director. Most recently, Sudhir was Resort Hotel Manager for Sheraton Denarau Villas, Fiji and Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, where he was instrumental in reopening the resort in March 2022 after a $55 million renovation.
His journey at Marriott began in 2007 as a Guest Service Agent at the Sydney Harbor Marriott Front Desk. In 2011, he was promoted to Front Desk Manager at Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde Sydney, then Rooms Manager at JW Marriott Gold Coast in 2014 before moving to Fiji. While in Fiji, Sudhir launched the Marriott Training Academy to help develop local talent, as well as establishing a partnership with the Mananuca Environment Society to spread the joy of a good trip through Good Travel initiatives. by Marriott Bonvoy.
Sudhir was the recipient of two Manager of the Year awards through Marriott International in 2013 and 2017, and recently earned the GM Certificate from the Marriott Development Academy.
Scott MacDonald, General Manager of Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Central Park
Scott began his career with Marriott International in 1999, at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast as Banquet Manager. Since then, he has held several positions at Marriott, including Food and Beverage Manager at Sheraton Grand Sydney, Hyde Park; Resort Director of Food and Beverage at Sheraton Fiji Resort and Golf Club, Sheraton Denarau Villas and Westin Resort & Spa Denarau Island; and Hotel Manager of Sheraton Resorts in Fiji.
Scott joins Four Points by Sheraton Sydney, Central Park from his last role as General Manager of Courtyard by Marriott, North Ryde – where he took the hotel to new heights while tackling the challenges of the pandemic and renovating the supply of food and drink products.
Michelle Scott, General Manager of Moxy Sydney Airport Hotel
With over 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry in operational and commercial disciplines, Michelle has extensive experience working in hotels in their pre-opening and opening phases. Michelle first joined Marriott International in 2007 and has since been a key driver of business strategy and sales team leader for Courtyard by Marriott Surfers Paradise, Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa and Brisbane Marriott Hotel.
In 2017, Michelle opened the highly acclaimed Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay. She then returned to Brisbane in 2018 to successfully open The Westin Brisbane while overseeing the Four Points by Sheraton Brisbane in a complex role as Director of Sales and Marketing, a period during which the brands incorporated the Starwood heritage into the Marriott systems. In the same year, she received the Asia Pacific Brand, Marketing, Loyalty and PR Special Achievement Leader of the Year Award for Marriott International.
Michelle now brings her expertise to the Moxy Sydney Airport hotel team as it prepares to open in 2023, joining her most recent role as Executive Assistant Manager – Sales and Marketing at The Westin Brisbane and Four Points by Sheraton Brisbane. Having mentored and developed associates across multiple disciplines throughout her career, Michelle brings her passion for people and multidisciplinary leadership experience to Moxy Sydney Airport to lead the team in driving innovation and the customer experience.
