Ocean Casino Resort has big sports betting plans after the Super Bowl

Ocean Casino Resort built a new permanent bookie with the hope of opening the in-person betting shop later this year.

Construction of a 2,500 square foot sports betting will begin this spring, Ocean Casino Resort said in a November 15 petition to the New Jersey Gaming Enforcement Division. The goal is to open the book by the second quarter of 2022.

Ocean Casino Resort is also severing its ties with the bettor William Hill in favor of Bookmaking in the United States. The partnership between Ocean and US Bookmaking is expected to begin in March.

Here are some additional details regarding the new retail sports betting plans at Ocean:

What does this mean for Super Bowl betting at Ocean Casino Resort?

The current sportsbook at Ocean will remain open through Super Bowl LVI, a spokesperson said. Thereafter, a betting window and kiosk will be available for in-person betting during construction.

Ocean’s two online sports betting partners, Typical and Through the door (not yet available), will not be affected by the changes.

Currently, Ocean is undergoing a reinvestment of $75 million, including the completion of 12 unfinished floors of hotel rooms.

What about the current bookmaker at Ocean?

US Bookmaking will be the bettor for Ocean’s retail sports betting, but the casino will manage and operate the book with in-house staff.

Entertainment Caesars bought William Hill United States Last year. Reno-based Caesars Entertainment operates three Atlantic City casinos (Caesars AC, Harrah’s Resort Air Conditioning and Air conditioning Tropicana) and is phasing out the William Hill brand.

In November, Ocean announced sports betting partnership with US Bookmaking, a subsidiary of Elys gaming technology.

“We are delighted to partner with USBookmaking to capitalize on their expertise, delivering a top-notch experience,” Bill Callahan, the interim CEO of Ocean said in a press release. “As Ocean continues to strengthen its position within Atlantic City, the addition of a renowned organization such as USBookmaking should only serve to strengthen our land-based betting product.”

Retail sports betting at Ocean goes from strength to strength

Ocean Casino Resort was the first casino in Atlantic City to have a true retail sports betting site.

When the old revel in reopened in June 2018, the William Hill Sportsbook debuted in the center of the casino.

Gaming regulators have redacted many details about the new sportsbook in public documents. However, a casino spokesperson said the new bookmaker will improve customer experience and make better use of space.

Ocean Casino Resort’s retail sports betting store was the second most profitable store of the nine Atlantic City casinos. In 2021, the book brought in almost $2.4 million in turnover, tracking only Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa’s BetMGM sports betting and bar ($4.9 million).
