PNRC’s Hollywood Casino announces that its poker room will not reopen

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course officially announced that the poker room will not reopen. When Pennsylvania casinos began reopening in June 2020 after COVID-19 shutdowns, many poker rooms didn’t open until months later. However, the PNRC’s Hollywood Casino poker room remained closed.

On July 1 around 7 p.m., they posted the ad of the closure of the poker room on Facebook as well as plans for a Bad Beat Jackpot Contest.

The Hollywood Casino poker room is closed

As part of the shutdown, the casino is offering players a chance to win a share of the remaining poker funds.

Here are the details:

  • To qualify for the Bad Beat Jackpot Contestyou must have been a ranked poker player between August 4, 2019 and March 20, 2020
  • The exclusive Bad Beat Jackpot draw will take place on July 29 and 30 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Players will have the chance to win a share of over $440.00 in prize money with a grand cash prize of $50,000 each day.

Negative reaction

Facebook’s announcement elicited a mostly negative reaction.

  • “BS! They should invite these players back and do a 2 day tournament for the money…”
  • “No shock. I knew it was coming. Played here as it was the closest place to play. But the truth was, this place ran the most disorganized poker room I’ve ever seen. Some of the rules they applied were just plain stupid.
  • “I never intended to reopen it. They can’t staff. They can’t find good dealers. Look around for the rest of what’s left of this place.
  • “They were never going to open it again, everyone should have figured that out by now.”
  • “I really enjoyed playing live cash at a tournament in Hollywood. Other casinos in the state have live poker tables but for some reason Hollywood PA no…just sad…I’m going to Hollywood in Perryville MD to play closer to home.

Changes to Hollywood Casino PNRC

Late August 2021, Tattered Flaga veteran owned and operated restaurant has opened in the space formerly occupied by the Skybox Sports Bar.

At the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Committee meeting in November, PNRC’s Hollywood Casino received approval to remove 191 of their 1,927 slot machines. Casino officials said this was largely due to the proliferation of unregulated and untaxed slot machines, also known as “skill games,” throughout Pennsylvania.

In March 2022 before the start of the NCAA tournament, Hollywood Casino opened a new Sportsbook bar stool on the site of the old sideboard.
