The Nation Citizen Potawatomi opened its flagship business in 2006, welcoming visitors to the FireLake Grand Casino with 125,000 square feet of gaming. It turned 15 in 2021, and the past decade and a half has brought many changes, including a name change in 2012. Today, the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort, that one stop shop for fun off I-40 attracts visitors with a Brazilian steakhouse. , a spa, a 14-story hotel, bowls and dice games, two-story slot machines and much more.

Chad Mathews, Marketing Director of Grand Casino, started working for the establishment in 2015.

Entertainment place

The Nation began construction on a 262-room hotel in 2011, opening it to the public two years later. He added nearly 144,000 square feet to the property, with architecture influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright. It now houses the Grand Resort Spa, a 24-hour fitness center, meeting rooms, in-room dining, wireless internet, an outdoor swimming pool and more.

“We are, I believe, the destination for central Oklahoma when it comes to casinos,” Mathews said. “If you are looking more for a resort vibe, if you are looking for an upscale setting, if you are looking for that kind of casino experience, especially in central Oklahoma, we are the stop.”

The Grand Event Center has hosted major musical groups such as The Band Perry, Alanis Morissette and Rodney Carrington. The Emmy-winning music documentary and concert series Play It Loud has also made its home here, welcoming emerging artists of different genres from across the state. The space has also attracted numerous conferences over the past decade, most notably the Red Earth Festival Indigenous Art Market in 2020 and 2021.

“We have everything you really need to organize a conference. We have entertainment, we have hotel rooms, we have restaurants, we have catering, we have space. So it’s kind of a one-stop-shop, especially for this good sized group. They can do anything here, ”said Mathews.

Future improvements

After an unprecedented 2020, the casino celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2021 with the best revenue year yet. People eagerly returned to their favorite slots and poker tables after spending time outdoors. The casino took the opportunity to refresh its machine selections and floor plan to give it a more “open” feel.

“We were growing from year to year before the pandemic & mldr; But for it to continue and to do even better now, it’s pretty awesome, ”said Mathews.

The Grand plans to improve next year by expanding its food offering – which already includes a steakhouse, sports grill, and sushi restaurant – with a food court on the ground floor.

“If you and I are going for lunch and you want some ramen, and I feel like barbecue, we can go in different directions and back together, and (it’s) just an easy way to do it,” a- he declared.

Bars and restaurants will also start serving Grand House Brewing beers in 2022. CPN’s new brewery will feature American lager on tap with more flavors and beer types to come.

“With the craft beer explosion across the country and in Oklahoma, it’s one of those things that it almost seems mandatory, like, you have to have it now,” Mathews said. “But it will be good in terms of a product that we have the ownership and the ability to deliver to our customers and clients and bring our own kind of spin to it.”

They are also anticipating the return of concerts in the new arena and event center, with work underway to connect all parts of the casino in a fun and efficient way. Current plans will give the entrance and other areas “more pomp,” said Mathews. The Hunzicker Brothers, Inc. recently updated the dome above the exterior main entrance to include multi-colored LED lights that paint the structure purple, blue, and red.

CPN is constantly looking for new ways to improve the experience of its customers in order to ensure their return and keep their reputation for good fun clean.

“The Grand has become a standard in terms of casinos in Oklahoma, and we want to continue to be that standard,” said Mathews.
