The number of aparthotel rooms in Dublin is set to double in 2022
The number of aparthotel rooms in Dublin will double this year according to a new report.
Property adviser Savills Ireland says they will account for 6.8% of the city’s hotel stock by the end of the year.
An aparthotel is a complex of serviced apartments that uses a hotel-style reservation system, allowing occupants to leave whenever they wish.
Two Staycity aparthotels have opened in Dublin this year, and the supply of aparthotels is expected to increase by another 40%, based on what is currently under construction.
Tom Barrett, director of hotels and leisure at Savills Ireland, said some have questioned whether the city can absorb this level of expansion;
“Savills anticipates very near-term challenges at the city level, given that the bulk of the aparthotel pipeline will be delivered in 2022 when demand from international travelers is in the recovery phase from covid-19”
But he went on to say; “With companies such as TikTok, 2K Games and JustEat establishing a new headquarters in Dublin alongside existing large occupiers like Facebook, business demand for long-term accommodation should be buoyant.”
